Seva Dina July-2018

Youth for Seva, to inculcate the ‘Seva bhaava’ in the youngsters had organized SevaDina and celebrated the birth anniversary of Lokamanya Balagangadhara Tilak on the 21st of July, 2018.

The preparations for the event began with the formation of the Core Team on June 14th  and was followed by meetings to decide on the responsibilities each team member would take up.

Once the work distribution was over, the first stage permissions to conduct the event was taken from different schools across Bangalore. All the Core team members played an important role in the mobilization of volunteers from different sources including YFS and College volunteers.

The volunteer registrations started pouring in and we decided to have meetings for them at different clusters and orient them as to What Seva dina is, why it is done and how it is done. Meanwhile, we also had planned on mixed set of outdoor and indoor activities we had to do on the day.

The list included –
1. Drip irrigation
2. Education awareness
3. Ban plastic campaign
4. Each one teach one
5. Traffic awareness
6. Waste segregation.

We identified volunteers to be the anchor volunteers in 48 schools that participated. These anchors were supported by 10 volunteers on an average. Thus the teams were ready to perform their part for Seva Dina. Also, we had taken second round of permissions from the schools by then.

518 volunteers took part in the event which included 222 regular and 296 college volunteers who interacted with 2224 school children in 48 schools across Bangalore. It was interesting to see more college volunteers participate in the event.

On 21st July, 2018, the event had begun as early as 8.15 am in some schools. The volunteers and all the school children felt energetic and enthusiastic. All of us in the team were excited to see the results of the efforts we had all put for around a month time.

The event began with an introduction about Lokamaanya Balagangadhara Tilak and SevaDina Song written by Sri. Ramesha Hegde. All of us felt united when we sang the song and learnt about the great Freedom movement pioneer. The conduction of the events was gracefully supported by the teachers and the staff at schools and we felt thankful about it.

The events were successfully completed due to all the work the volunteers did. They all worked untiringly and accomplished all the tasks they had taken up. It was a moment of euphoria to see the event work out so wonderfully which was reflected by the responses we got from the volunteers, school students and the teachers.

The cherry on top moment was when we the students enjoy the activities and learn from it. It was an amazing experience for all of us who was a part of Seva Dina 2018!
