SPHOORTI 2017 – A culmination of contentment

In the words of Hellen Keller, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it”. SPHOORTI 2017 was a testament to this statement with all the participants being role models of facing adversities head-on. Being the third consecutive SPHOORTI event, it was successfully completed by Youth for Seva in partnership with Sakshama Foundation (A national level organization working towards the all-round development of children with special abilities). This unique annual event offers a platform to specially-abled children to display their talents in several cultural activities.

It was conducted on the 3rd of September 2017 in Rani Sarla Devi School, Jayanagar, Bangalore and saw the students participating in several competitions like Story Telling, Group Dance, Painting, Simple Puzzle, Cooking without Fire, Yoga, Fancy Dress, Memory Game and Number Chart to name a few.

Our Chief Guest for the Inauguration Event was Mr. Udaya Kiran, Coordinator of Kala Sakshama from Sakshama Foundation. He spoke of the prominence of such platforms in bringing out the best in the children. Our chief guest for the Valedictory event truly lives by his message. Mr. Vishwas is a man of many talents having excelled in Swimming, Dance and Kung-Fu in which he has won several accolades at both national and international levels. He is a recipient of the Karnataka State Award in 2015 and Kempegowda Award in 2017 amongst many others. He has participated in several entertainment programs in the local media as well.

The experience shared by a volunteer with regard to SPHOORTI speaks volumes with regard to how every member involved benefited greatly from this event. In the words of Ms. Suma, lead volunteer from Cisco

“It was a great event organized by YFS. I was so happy to see the kids perform so well. Thanks a lot for including me. Please let me know about any upcoming events. I will be glad to participate.”

Some of the other testimonials include –

“Thank you for your support Youth For Seva. It was a very different kind of event and our children enjoyed very much. It was first time for us.” – Mr. Ramappa, founder of Sri Sai Vatsalya School for Mentally Challenged

“Congratulations for the organizing committee for such a memorable Sunday! The competitions were very well planned and the ‘Co-ordinator kit’ for the competition coordinators was very useful in conducting the event with ease with maximum details available. It was a brilliant experience, a great learning. I guess I enjoyed more than the kids. I got to see a different stream of children happily participating in different events.” – Malavika, Volunteer/Competition co-ordinator at the event

“I’m glad to have been a part of this blissful event. Cultural events are generally focused on dance and music alone, but Sphoorti covered a wide range of competitions. The best part of the event was the fun stalls where games were conducted for kids’ entertainment. Be it food management, waste management or event management, it was very well organized. Witnessing the smile on kids’ face makes anyone happy; nothing can replace their genuine smile. A big thanks to Sphoorti organizers.” – Rakshitha J, Volunteer/Competition co-ordinator at the event

In all, it was a fulfilling event for not just the kids but for the entire team of Youth for Seva!
