Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi is observed as the National Youth Day in our country .The philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked are a great source of inspiration for the Indian youth. His thought provoking lectures and writings have always been a source of motivation for the youth. At Youth For Seva (YFS) , the youth day was celebrated over a period of 2 weeks . Around 120 volunteers engaged immensely with the students from 50 government schools across Bangalore. Volunteers were given training on how to narrate stories in an interactive way , learning the art of storytelling and also inculcating the values of swamiji in themselves , as well as others. Various fun activities were conducted by the volunteers at schools which included quizzing , recitation of slogans in both English and Kannada , singing songs and extempore where many students delivered speech on Vivekananda and his life principles. Adding to this extensive work , many students were given the opportunity to display their artistic skills by drawing portraits of Vivekananda , and their acting skills by enacting scenes from his life as a youth. This experience taught the volunteers and students alike that being a youth doesn’t have any age limit as long as you are energetic and willing to do something good for your society . Furthermore , as a part of this celebration , YFS donated a set of 9 books to the school library . This whole event was immensely appreciated by the volunteers as well as the school teachers and students as it was fun and informative at the same time. These values are sure to remain with everyone , and keeping this in mind Youth for Seva would love to conduct many more events like this for the betterment of the society.
