We have started Visakhapatnam chapter in 2017 with the spirit of giving free education to the needy students of different slums in Visakhapatnam. At 6 Learning centers, our team of volunteers are teaching Basic Math’s, spoken English to our students. We are also helping Orphanages by providing them Rice, spending time with children’s.
400 Covid mini kits were distributed with the help of 24 volunteers
200 Grocery kits were distributed to people who lost their jobs to pandemic and people with disability
We celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas with our volunteers and community partners.
School Kits Distribution
500 School Kits distributed at different orphanages (Jnanananda Orphanage, Aaradhana Children Home, Aananda Marg Ashram, Single teachers schools at Agency areas conducted by BVK, Hidden Sprourts School for Mentally challenged students, etc).
For the first time team Vishakhapatnam conducted CHIGURU which is a YFS flagship event which gives a platform for Govt school & underprivilege children to showcase their extra curriculum talent. While the rest of the chapters conducted this event online, Vishakhapatnam is the only chapter where the event was conducted online at BVK College, Visalakshi Nagar.
250 Students participated in 6 different competitions from 25 Locations. 70 YFS Volunteers coordinated this event with 20 Dignitaries. Totally it was a great event for students who were home for very long due to pandemic. Prices were distributed to all winners to motivate the children.
Free Learning Centers at slum
Team Visakhapatnam runs a total of 23 Abhyasik's with 500+ students. These Learning Centers mainly help educate Fisherman communities (Peda Jalaripeta, Fishing Harber, Kancharapalem) across the city. We have selected tutors from the same locality who studying a degree, B tech and we provide a monthly training to all the tutors on the syllabus they opt to teach. Along with teaching we celebrate National Holidays, Festivals in each center which brightens the days for these children.
