NMMS (National means cum Merit Scholarship) is a national level competitive scholarship examination scheme for 8th standard students those who are studying in Government and Government-aided school.

Objectives:

• Promote higher education by providing financial assistance
• Reduce school dropout rate 
• To identify & retain talented students
• To develop competitive skills amongst Government school children

Benefits:

• Grants scholarship of 1000 per month for 4 years from class IX to XII
• Students will develop the competitive skills. It helps them to take CET and other entrance exams and also Government exams in future.

Preparation:

• The exam usually happens in the month of November every year.
• All the preparations starts in the month of May, like printing the teaching materials, pooling of the volunteers, giving the orientations and training.
• Experienced resource team will train the volunteers.
• Youth for Seva will approach the education department of the concerned state and take required permissions to conduct the training in the regional schools.
• WhatsApp groups are created for the volunteers to further discuss and clarify their doubts.

Implementation:

• We will start connecting the volunteers to the schools by mid June.
• An interested volunteer can choose the government/ aided schools near by to teach NMMS.
• YFS will provide the online training materials and reference documents to the volunteers. 
• YFS volunteer will help the children of their respective school to fill in the application form.
• Question bank along with OMR sheets will be available on YFS website to conduct mock exam. It will help the students to understand the exam pattern and overcome the competitive exam phobia.
• YFS volunteer teachers will support the children to upload their information on national scholarship portal post examination.

Overall Summary is as below :

• Each student will get the sum of 12000/- per year for 4 years. It means each student gets 48,000/- scholarship for his/her studies for next 4 years till 12^th standard . The scholarship amount is worth 66,72,000 INR for all these 139 students across Karnataka !!
• Apart from the financial support for the selected students also for all the students who have been trained developed Mathematical skills, logical and aptitude skills in this process and mainly the confidence they have got to take up any competitive exams , which will help them in their career in a long way !!
